Windows 7: Booting from a Virtual Hard Disk (VHD)

I was installing Windows 7 Ultimate.  As described in another post in this blog, I had just figured out what a Win7 virtual hard disk (VHD) was.  Now I was looking at the question of how to boot from a Win7 VHD.

First, I had to create a VHD containing something to boot.  In other words, how could I get Windows 7 installed inside the VHD?  There were apparently several ways to create a bootable VHD, as described in a separate post.  As more fully described elsewhere, though, I decided not to follow through with that exploration at this time.
